When Mikey and I lived in Texas, we started doing juice fasts pretty regularly (by regularly, I mean one fast with each seasonal change). Juice fasts clean out your system by detoxifying. For 3 to 5 days, you rid your body of solid food, allowing it to focus on getting rid of the toxins in your liver, skin, bowels, etc. If you combine it with dry skin brushing, sweating (as in a sauna), or seaweed baths, you can feel like a new person by the end of it. It's incredibly invigorating.
Of course, the flip side to it is that by about day 2, you feel like crap. With all the toxins in the body trying to escape, it can cause acne, headaches, grumpy moods, etc. But again, once you get past that "healing crises", as it's termed, it's almost like you're in a little "happy" bubble. I know, it sounds weird...
In any case, we have gotten away from that since leaving Texas. It's not that I haven't wanted to. In the past 3 years I haven't been able to.... what with the pregnancies and breastfeeding, it's really not healthy to do so. So, tomorrow, I start my first juice fast in about 8 years. I went to Earth Fare today. I bought tomatoes, squash, spinach, pineapple, apples, papaya. I already have carrots, celery, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. I also bought some Very Veggie juice (the organic equivalent of V8) and some Simply Nutrition Mega Green juice. So, I begin tomorrow! Hopefully I will be able to make it through the hard part so that I can really enjoy the benefits. I think that the hardest part to it will be making food for Lilly and not being able to eat any of it. We'll see....

everything sounds good BUT the V8. I was making green smoothies with everything from kale to avocados and berries...flax blah blah blah, but man.... V8. It's just so awful to me!
